■ Editor's Column: How to read this issue
This issue and the July 15th issue are published as special summer editions.

In the July 1st issue, the results of the "Domestic Adhesive Paper Shipments for Printing Survey" conducted by this newspaper to understand trends in the label market were published on the front page and pages 9 and 10.

According to the survey, adhesive paper shipments for printing in fiscal year 2025 are projected to be 105.4 million square meters/month, a 0.6% decrease from the previous year, marking the fourth consecutive year of decline. In sectors such as food, beverages, and daily necessities, brand owners are consolidating SKUs, re-evaluating packaging designs to reduce costs, and shifting to direct printing, all of which are suppressing demand for paper-based adhesive paper.

By substrate, paper-based adhesive paper decreased by 1.4% from the previous year to 81.84 million square meters/month, while film-based adhesive paper increased by 2.4% to 23.56 million square meters/month. Among these, PET, synthetic paper, and film thermal materials are performing strongly, driven by the increased adoption of transparent containers that showcase contents and the need for functionality and design. The proportion of film-based materials reached 22.4%, further increasing its presence.

For fiscal year 2026, shipments are predicted to increase by 1.3% from the previous year due to pre-emptive purchases in anticipation of raw material supply uncertainties and price revisions, as well as inventory building. However, many believe that actual demand itself will remain flat to slightly down, making it difficult to say that demand has fully recovered. The market environment continues to be challenging.
