The top story on the front page reported on the news that PubteX Inc. and Nippon Shuppan Hanbai Inc. (Nippan) recently announced the results of their bookstore operation demonstration experiment utilizing RFID tags.

The verification, conducted for six months at a bookstore in Tokyo, improved display operations by utilizing real-time inventory visualization and data analysis through RFID. As a result, sales of new comic books increased by approximately 15% on a monthly average, and overall comic sales also surpassed the national average.

Regarding the streamlining of store operations, an operational system that can be managed by a small number of staff was established. This demonstrated that both sales improvement and labor saving are possible through shelf management and sales analysis using RFID tags.

The focus is on how the use of RFID tags led not only to inventory management and labor saving, but also to improved sales floors and sales promotion. The scope of data utilization obtained from tags is likely to expand further in the future.
