According to Label Shimbun, "Environmentally friendly pressure-sensitive labels" to account for 37% of total label shipments in 2025.

This newspaper recently calculated the 2024 share of eco-friendly pressure-sensitive labels in Japan and globally. While eco-friendly labels accounted for 45% of total shipments worldwide, they only made up 37% in Japan, revealing that the Japanese label market is lagging behind the global market in the adoption of eco-friendly types.

Labels using "forest certified paper," which held the top share in both breakdowns, were 4 points lower in Japan than globally. Additionally, "other eco-friendly products," which incorporate recycled and biomass resins in label substrates, adhesives, and inks, were 3 points lower in Japan. As efforts to reduce environmental impact, epitomized by the SDGs, accelerate in various regions worldwide, the Japanese label market is urged to actively promote eco-friendly products.
